Bench; Mahogany bench, 1864; from the collection of Captain Richard C. Mears (1829-1899); large mahogany wood bench with hinged, cushioned leather lid, two drawers at the front, both with key holes (right side still works, with key from 2005.34.11), though both drawers have no handles or means of opening them easily; the bottom has a scalloped edge and four feet, while the back is a plain, unfinished piece of wood that has been nailed to the rest of the structure, though it is beginning to separate; this piece was possibly at one time the base of the wardrobe (2005.34.6), but has since been made into a bench with the addition of the leather top.
