Wardrobe; Mahogany wardrobe, 1864; from the collection of Captain Richard C. Mears (1829-1899); tall mahogany wardrobe, opens in front with two large paneled doors, right one overlaps left one slightly, and has a key hole to lock the wardrobe shut; inside, the body of the wardrobe is divided into two separate sides by a wooden "wall" in the center of the piece; on the left side of the interior are three shelves, all removable (they rest on wooden supports); on the right side of the interior is a wooden bar for hanging clothing from, running the depth of the wardrobe down the center, and kept in place by metal brackets, while six metal hooks are screwed into the left and back sides of this half of the wardrobe interior (four on the left, two on the back wall, with two missing from the back and four missing from the right wall); there is a hook on the dividing panel of the wardrobe's interior which can be used to latch the left side door shut; the sides of the wardrobe are double paneled, and the molding on the top is loose and able to be removed; there are four wheels attached to the corners at the bottom of the entire wardrobe for easy transportation.
