Carte de visite, albumen print on white card; Australian Aborigines, circa 1882 (see Manuscript Coll. 311); collected by Captain Richard C. Mears (1829-1899) during his travels as a shipmaster to the South Pacific; five men and two women, all Australian Aborigines, three men with a bone through septum piercing, two women in dresses, five men shirtless, wearing pants, all without shoes, scarification is visible on torso of some males; handwritten on back "Australian/ Aborigines".
