Daguerreotype; William Muir, before 1860 (see Manuscript coll. 311); from the collection of Captain Richard C. Mears (1829-1899); photograph of William Muir, a family friend of the Mears' who was part of the groom party when Richard Mears' father married Mary's (his step sister's) mother (Francis Johnson); case is an oval shape and covered entirely in blue velvet, and is also very difficult to open entirely; on the left interior of the case is a handwritten sheet of paper that reads "Coz (?) William/ Muir -- Grooms-/ man -- wedding/ Mary's mother."
