35mm slide photographed by Rosenfeld and Sons in September of 1958 off Newport, Rhode Island. Distance view of EASTERNER, #US18, on the left with blue and white spinnaker set and VIM, #US15, on the right with red and white spinnaker set, both vessels off-centered to the right in the image, port quarter stern views sailing downwind on a port tack with mainsails close hauled. EASTERNER was a 65'6" twelve meter sloop built in 1958 by James E. Graves, Inc. of Marblehead, Mass. and designed by C. Raymond Hunt for the Easterner Syndicate, with Chandler Hovey as the manager. She raced in the America's Cup trials of 1958 and 1962. VIM was a 70' 12 meter sloop designed by Sparkman & Stephens and built by Henry B. Nevins, Inc. of City Island, New York in 1939. Her owner was John Matthews in 1958. Mount info. handwritten: none. Embossed: "SEP 1958". Processor's stamp: "MADE IN U.S.A. / (black) 22".
