Distant image of EASTERNER, #US18, left, and VIM, #US15, right, both stern views with spinnakers flying and mainsails running free. EASTERNER was a 65'6" twelve meter sloop built in 1958 by James E. Graves, Inc. of Marblehead, Mass. and designed by C. Raymond Hunt for the Easterner Syndicate, with Chandler Hovey as the manager. She raced in the America's Cup trials of 1958 and 1962. VIM was a 70' 12 meter sloop designed by Sparkman & Stephens and built by Henry B. Nevins, Inc. of City Island, New York in 1939. Hew owner was John Matthews in 1958.
