The Alamo is called/ "The Cradle of Texas Liberty," and is noted in history/ on account of the brave men who defended it against/ the attacks of Santa Anna, the Mexican general who/ invested San Antonio, February 23, 1836, in command/ of a force estimated at from 4,000 to 6,000 soldiers;/ and the Americans were finally driven into the Alamo/ The entire American force was 188 men and after a/ siege of eleven days, Santa Anna captured the Alamo,/ March 6, 1838. The entire garrison was killed and/ their bodies burned./ The world renowned historical character Davy/ Crockett, was among the officers who were killed while/ defending the Alamo. The colonel in charge was W./ B. Travis and the other officers were James Bowie,/ Davy Crockettm J.B. Bonham and J.
