Hatpin; Monogrammed hatpin; from the collection of Captain Richard C. Mears (1829-1899); metal hatpin with a circular, flat, disc shaped head, with a monogram on the top; monogrammed on top "V"; possibly belonging to one of the Van Valkenburgh girls, including Emma Josephine and Gertrude Marie (daughters of Nellie Goodsell Mears), Helen Sophia (daughter of Joseph Dwight Van Valkenburgh from his first marriage), or possibly Nellie herself.
