Chest; Handkerchief box for chest of drawers, 1864; from the collection of Captain Richard C. Mears (1829-1899); one of two removable handkerchief boxes, to be placed on either side of the top of the chest of drawers' marble top; box has a hinged lid that can be opened to utilize its storage compartment, and the shape of the front of the box resembles the shape of the front of the dresser; on top of the box is a wooden bracket, carved with scroll and fruit decorations, and used as a partial support for the mirror that is part of the whole set.
