Ring; Gold ring with paper sleeve, before 1916; from the collection of Captain Richard C. Mears (1829-1899); 18k gold ring, thin and smooth; inscription on inside of ring reads "B.B.R.C. To E.J.V.V. 5-18-16" and "18k"; gift from Bertram B.R. Cook to wife Emma Josephine Van Valkenburgh (daughter of Nellie Goodsell Mears and Joseph Dwight Van Valkenburgh); ring came in paper sleeve from a jeweler in Maryland, most likely from an attempt to repair the break in the ring; handwritten on paper sleeve "May 19, '72"; printed on paper sleeve "Thank You/ PLEASE CALL AGAIN/ ROETH'S/ Jewelers/ 3120 Greenmount Ave. - Baltimore, Md. 21218/ In Waverly - BElmont [sic] 5-9561/ Agents for Bulova/ Longines-Wittnauer and/ Wyler Watches". Ring has broken apart at one point and is slighly warped in shape.
