Dennis Conner began his yachting career as the skipper of the Cup defense candidate MARINER, #US25, in 1974, but continued on as helmsman and tactician on COURAGEOUS, #US26, in the 1974 America's Cup Race. In 1980 he skippered FREEDOM, #US30, as the winner of the Cup. In 1983 he skippered LIBERTY, #US40, which lost. In 1987 he skippered the winning STARS & STRIPES, #US55, followed by the contest in 1988 with NEW ZEALAND, KZ1, in a catamaran STARS & STRIPES, #US1. Mr. Conner lost the America's Cup in 1983 to AUSTRALIA II but won the America's Cup back in 1987 and kept it in 1988 and 1992. He lost the Cup again in 1995. Mr. Conner wrote a book titled, COMEBACK. In 1993 he set a new transatlantic speed record in his boat, WINSTON. He was the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Cup defender candidate 1992 and 1995.
