Box; Sewing Box; from the collection of Captain Richard C. Mears (1829-1899); wooden box, most likely a sewing kit, decorated on the top and sides with floral ornamentation made from plastic and attached to wooden box; top of box is hinged, and has a lock, with a keyhole on the front; interior has ten compartments for storage, though many small pieces of wood have broken off of these compartments; one compartment is covered with a bright orange lid that is able to be lifted off, while two others are covered in velveteen (one is narrow with a space between the two sides, while the other is slightly domed and rectangular in shape; the front corners of the box each have a small compartment with a circular cut out, and are each holding one silver, metal, cylindrical canister with a removable lid; two small pulls that were most likely attached to some of the compartment's lids are now sitting unattached in the box; interior of the box's lid has a mirror that is hinged and can be angled forward if needed.
