Scissors; Adjustable embroidery scissors; from the collection of Captain Richard C. Mears (1829-1899); small, right handed scissors, most likely used for sewing or embroidery; on outer side of scissors is a small knob that when turned, extends a small piece of metal with serrated edges from the scissors handle; each notch in the extending piece is numbered, and corresponds to how much the extending piece prevents the blades from closing; engraved on the tip of one blade is "?.V.B."; engraved higher on the blade on this side is "HSB&C"; engraved on the opposite side is "GERMANY".
