Rattle; Sterling silver baby rattle; from the collection of Captain Richard C. Mears (1829-1899); sterling silver baby rattle with a mother of pearl handle; flat, round head, decorated with a scroll pattern; on one side, near the base of the rattle where it meets the handle is engraved "STERLING" with the silver mark of Webster Co. below; possibly belonged to Nellie G. Mears, daughter of Richard C. Mears; rattle came in blue cloth sleeve, with a white tag sewn onto it; printed on the tag in blue "JOHN WANAMAKER/ JEWELERS & SILVERSMITHS".
