Halsey Herreshoff, a grandson of Nathanael Herreshoff, has been described as a model maker, designer and yachtsman and was involved in the America's Cup races as a navigator until 1983. He sailed on board the 12 meter LIBERTY, sail #US40, during the America's Cup of 1983 which was the defender and first U.S. boat to lose America's Cup to the Australian challenger AUSTRALIA II.
