Container; Pounce pot; from the collection of George Elliott (1810-1862); metal pounce pot (ink sander); most likely handmade; cylindrical in shape, with a concave lid perforated with multiple small holes; used to sprinkle pounce (fine powder generally prepared from ground salt, fine sand, and powdered soft minerals like talc or soapstone) over wet ink to help it dry faster; concave top allows for excess pounce to be poured back into container; powder still in the container.
