Navigational instrument; Brass course plotting instrument; from the collection of George Elliott (1810-1862); prototype of an instrument meant to be used for plotting courses on charts, as invented and constructed by George Elliott himself; instrument appears to be a combination of something similar to a parallel rule and a protractor, is made of brass (with one piece having an ivory or bone handle), and housed in a wooden box.
