Print of etching "Rousseau and Desdemona, The Last Port" by Lemuel D. Eldred, copyrighted and reproduced by Charles Taber & Company, 1888. Print depicts whalers ROUSSEAU and DESDEMONA docked side-by-side along the New Bedford waterfront; small wooden vessel docked in the foreground; miscellaneous vessels and buildings visible in the background to the right and left of the whaling vessels. Small etching of two whaleboats [?] tied next to a capstan in left plate below the edge of the main print; signed 'L.D. Eldred' in lower right corner of the print, additionally signed in pencil 'L.D. Eldred' below on the plate. Copyright etched along the upper left edge of the plate, reads 'Copyright 1888 by Charles Taber & Co. New Bedford. Framed by donor in frame made from wood from the ROUSSEAU, see 2012.44.2. Overall fair condition; staining across the surface with possible foxing, print has faded from exposure to sunlight (visible around the edges where the frame covered the surface), small rip at the center of the bottom edge. Overall: 15 1/2 x 24 3/8 in.
