The Temple of Hatshepsut in Deir el-Bahari, near Luxor. This huge temple on the west side of the Nile, across from Luxor, was built by the pharaoh Hatshepsut in part to solidify her power. This photograph was taken in 1908, and the Temple of Hatshepsut looks very different today, with the second and third stories having since been restored. From an album of photos from a 1908 voyage to the Mediterranean on the CARPATHIA.
