A photograph of a trained monkey and goat performing in a square in Cairo. The goat is sitting on the goat, wearing a little jacket and apparently smoking a cigar. A leash around the monkey's neck is being held by a man on the right, who also holds a tambourine. There are two boys watching. Trained monkeys and goats performing together were apparently a common and popular sight for visitors to Cairo around the turn of the century; there are a number of photographs, drawings and paintings of such scenes, and even film footage captured by a tourist in 1903. From an album of photographs from a Mediterranean voyage on the CARPATHIA in 1908.
