Associated Press aerial photograph of the MORRO CASTLE burning shortly after dawn on September 8, 1934. The fire began around 2:50 am and spread quickly, so this was a few hours later. There is a blur in the lower left corner that is probably the wing of the airplane. Unlike the many photographs taken from the shore at Asbury Park later, after it had grounded there, this is a view of the starboard side of the ship and shows the empty davits where lifeboats had been launched.
