Aerial photograph of the MORRO CASTLE burning at sea. Note the big wave; rough waters were a major factor in the casualty rate for passengers who jumped overboard. The back of the photo is stamped with the copyright information of International News Photos, Inc. and has a typed note saying "A splendid aerial view of the S.S. MORRO CASTLE as she appeared blazing from stem to stern off the New Jersey Coast this morning, Sept. 8th. First estimates said four hundred persons lost their lives." It is also stamped Sep. 10 1934, though the photo was taken on September 8, and there is a pencilled annotation "Watercraft/SS Morro Castle."
