A small black and white photograph of the MORRO CASTLE where it has grounded off the beach at Asbury Park, NJ. There are people visible on the breakwater at left. The name of the ship is clearly visible, and although it is a faded or overexposed photograph, there does seem to still be some smoke billowing on the deck. This was probably taken by a visitor to the beach on September 8 or September 9, 1934, when the ship was still burning. After the ship came to rest off the beach on September 8, some 250,000 visitors reportedly flocked to the beach on September 9 to see it.
