One of a set of 8 photographs of the MORRO CASTLE taken on September 8, 1934, the day of the disaster, after the wreck had grounded off Asbury Park. This one shows a crowd standing on the boardwalk to view the ship. The ship's name and the date 9-8-34 are written on the front in red pen, and on the back it says "The 'Morro Castle' Sep. 8, 1934. Notice how close she is to the beach." This view is interesting because, unlike in so many photos, there is no one on the beach and the crowd is staying back. Perhaps at this point authorities were still restricting access to the beach out of safety concerns.
