One of a set of 8 photographs of the MORRO CASTLE taken on September 8, 1934, the day of the disaster, after the wreck had grounded off Asbury Park. This one is a view of the bow taken from the breakwater. The ship's name and the date 9-8-34 are written on the front in red pen, and on the back it says "The beautiful 'Morro Castle' of the Ward Line beached on the sands of Asbury Park, NJ. Fire broke out on Sep. 8, 1934 with a loss of 124 lives. N.B. Notice the steam still coming from the boat." There is also another ship in the distance on the left, perhaps part of the rescue effort that day.
