A photograph of the wreck of the MORRO CASTLE, with a small gathering of people in the foreground. The front of the card is labelled: "Ill fated MORRO CASTLE at Asbury Park, NJ After Disaster/ Sept. 10 1934; Action Photos Inc." This is an unusual photograph taken from some distance to the north of the ship. The beach directly in front of the ship is clear of people, unlike the crowds that had streamed there on September 9, the day after the disaster. It might just be early morning, but also the authorities of Asbury Park made some effort to restrict access to the beach and to charge visitors a fee in what was a difficult Depression year for this beach town.
