Black and white photograph 3 7/8in x 2 7/8in. Reverse inscription: “Pitcairn I.”; “95”; “Boat landing. Boats must be dragged up into sheds out of reach of storm waves.”; “R. A. Dillon” stamp in blue ink. Taken from the stern of a Pitcairn “whaleboat” looking toward the shore, several thatch-roofed and cloth-covered huts line a rocky beach. A considerable number of men, women, and children stand on the shore. A series of timbers are laid out parallel with the shoreline to aid in the boat-moving procedure.
