Black and white photograph 2 3/4in x 2 3/4in. Reverse inscription: “0640”; “R A Dillon” (stamp; blue ink). A seabird (possibly a frigate, order Pelecaniformes or Suliformes) stands atop a small swivel gun affixed to Yankee’s stern. R.A. Dillon suggests the cannon is from the 14th century, but it is undoubtedly a later example and it probably dates to the 18th or 19th century. See also: 2010.11.921-2010.11.923. Date and location not provided, but context and inventory number (0640) suggest Canton Island.
