Scratch-built model of the Viking longboat Osebergskipet. Model most likely built by the donor, not confirmed. Model depicts the vessel with central mast and sail; 15 oarholes with 15 oars secured to stands on each side; 14 shields placed along each side of the ship to protect the walls of the longboat. Miniature barrels holding a white powder (possibly representing spermacetti?) and fish (?) placed in space below deck; removed deck slats placed next to the barrels. Rudder attached to the stern of the starboard side. Model secured to base by six posts set in the hull; one thicker posts near the bow and hull, two thinner posts on port and starboard sides. Overall good condition. Overall: 18 x 35 1/2 x 10 1/2 in.
