Tintype; framed in 1992.119.2 with Bolles & Frisbie mat; tinted portrait of black man, Antoine DeSant (c. 1815-1886) who went on whaling voyages out of New London in 1830's, probably aboard whale ship TUSCARORA (Antonio De Santo in crew list); later became a grocer in New London, Connecticut; possibly from Cape Verde Islands.
