Picture made by punched stippling on wood panel, starboard view of ship CHARMER with lighthouse at left and pilot schooner #5 at right, scalloped border; with painted frame; possibly made by Captain Joseph Warren Holmes; handwritten in pencil on back "Ship Charmer. Her logs show she logged as high as 14 knots./ built Bath, Me./ 1883./ Captain Jos W. Holmes Master/ from 1884 to 1900 - on Cape Horn run in des ... with voyages to ... K... China, Japan .../ Sold in 1900 to Miguell & Bud... in S. F. Cal/ Cut down into a bark by Captain Slater/ & turned into a collier eventually lost on Pacific Coast/ This picture was made by my grandfa[ther?]/ Captain Jos[?] Holmes ... of a .../ Her cabins were finished[?] in Birds Eye Maple Panels, Mahogany carved mouldings and/ .../ I certify to above from personal knowledge/ [signed] J.
