MAINBOOM/ 26-1/2 Ft. BEAM/ 35 Ft. GAPE/ 10-1/2 Ft. DRAUGHT/ 17 Ft. BOWSPRIT/ 84 Ft. MAIN MAST/ 19 Ft. JIBBOOM/ BUILT AT SETAUKET L.I./ LAUNCHED JUNE 19, 1857/ CAPT. THOMAS B. HAWKINS SUPERINTENDED HER CONSTRUCTION/ SEE "THE RUDDER" ISSUE FEBRUARY 1904./ CAPT. HAWKINS WAS THE FATHER OF MRS. JOHN MARSELLUS"; 8 holes drilled in backboard; two L brackets remain at top of backboard. Designed by Capt. Thomas B. Hawkins; WANDERER was made for Mr. John D. Johnson who owned it for a year, it then changed hands to George W. Weld of Newport R.I.; eventually becoming a slave ship and then become a Navy ship.
