Round barometer with brass rim in hand-carved oak frame; face marked "RAYM[].SHARP/ [illegible]; horizontal thermometer with Fahrenheit and Centigrade scales; mercury intact; frame has 4 carved flowers with 4 gouges between each; bottom of frame has 1 screw eye; back has oval brass hanger secured with 3 brass screws; back cracked horizontally across center; 3 brass screws, 1 empty hole; glued to back is paper with typewriting " This barometer was presented to/ Capt. W. A. Sawyer of the American/ Barque Silas Fish of Mystic/ River Conn. by the Capt. of the/ English Barque Le'Baron" as a/ slight testimonial of his services/ in rescuing the crew of the Barque/ Le Baron, which was burned at sea/ February 1876, Lat. 56. S. Long./ 74W. To the westward of Cape/ Horn./ Presented to the Mystic Hook &/ Ladder Co. No. 1 of Mystic Conn./ by/ [handwritten] C. H. Wolfe.
