Silver print of view of Groton, CT, and the Thames from the top of Fort Griswald, circa 1923; typed in blue below the photo "Shows Groton in foreground. The stream/ of water on the right is the Thames River/ after the Connecticut has emptied into it./ The water on the horizon is not the ocean/ but is Long Island Sound. You can see two/ ships in the River; the one on the right is/ one of Merritt, Chapman, and Scott's tug boats,/ probably the 'Cassie', the other is a U.S./ Naval training ship/ Along side of her is a/ submarine -- right side. Ocean beach is located/ looking south from the Monument."
