overall: 7 x 5 in.

7x5 nitrate negative by Morris Rosenfeld, 1925.Image is a port bow view of CHARLES W. MORGAN in her sand cradle at Round Hill. She is re-rigged as a ship (during her refit at Round Hill). Three port side whaleboats hang from their davits and one whaleboat is on the dock (left bottom quarter of image). On the enshrinement of Charles W. Morgan at Round Hill, South Dartmouth, MA: “Towed to the south beach of Round Hill, the ‘Morgan’ was floated ashore and a cofferdam built around her. Sand was then pumped in to the waterline, surrounding the vessel. Federal authorities in Washington assured Colonel Green that this was the best method for preserving a wooden ship. A reproduction of an old-time wharf was then built beside the ‘Morgan,’ giving the impression that the old whaler was tied up alongside.” -- Hirshson, G. Warren, The whale ship Charles W. Morgan, Reynolds Printing Co., New Bedford, MA, 1932, p.4-5. Typewritten on original negative sleeve: "17277-F 1925 / Whaler at New Bedford / CHARLES W. MORGAN [box] 1414".
