Pill roller of brass and rosewood in excellent condition. Rectangular base is 12-3/8" long x 3-7/8" wide, & is 1-5/8" high at one end, 1-1/8" at the other. Brass strip is nailed to top of each long side & corrugated brass strip 2-3/8" wide is secured between them from higher end of board. Similar brass strip is set in second 13" long section, w/handle either end. This measures 2-7/8" wide between handles. As this 2nd piece, w/brass guard rail either side to hold it on 1st piece, was pulled over pill ingredients, pills were shaped by metal sections. Relates to Dr. Benjamin Franklin Monroe of Scituate, RI. Early office was at corner Broad & Winter Streets, Providence, RI. Later Dr. lived in Scituate, but maintained an office 2 days a week in a private home, corner of Friendship & Stewart Streets., Providence, RI.
