SCRIMSHAW & ALLIED ARTS - TEETH
marad; scrimshaw
ivory
Overall: 4 1/2 x 3 x 1 5/8 in.

Tooth. Figure of Liberty, draped with the American flag and holding a federal shield, after an element of the masthead of "Gleason's Pictorial Drawing-Room Companion" and "Gleason's Weekly Line-Of-Battle Ship", 1859. Likely originally one of a pair, the other depicting Justice (similar to the Justice on 1949.1247, which however is not a pair with or by the same hand as this one of Liberty). Engraved in script on reverse: "Mary".
