Coconut-shell dipper. Handle consists of six sections of whale ivory with five wooden separators screwed together on threaded whale ivory dowles. Unusual cage-work finial which contains an obsidian or black glass lozenge. Ivory ring at end of handle. Made by Capt. Frederick Howland Smith of whaling bark OHIO, c. 1876.
